Watch this short video for guidance and support on the technique:
Key Steps to Get All the Bubbles Out
ACTIONS:
- You need to pat your baby's back to DISLODGE the bubbles
- You need to SQUEEZE the bubbles up to help them exit
- PAT to DISLODGE, and SQUEEZE to Exit
POSITIONING:
- You need counter pressure on your baby's front where her stomach meets her food tube (esophagus)
- Having knees up to chest helps achieve this
- You want to gently and subtly elongate her esophagus aka arch her back, to let the bubbles loose
- Using fingers or the meat of your thumb to squeeze the bubbles up from base of spine to upper back
TIMING:
- Burp mid feed and after the feed
- Burp before all nap putdowns and bedtime
- Short 20 minute nap waking up crying? Trying burping to alleviate discomfort and resume sleep
